FROM THE COUNSELOR’S DESK

Welcome to the Guidance page. My name is Mrs. Sharon Ash.

I serve as the Guidance Counselor at St. Pius X School. It is my privilege to work with all school students and teachers through the Guidance Program. Parents should feel free to contact me if help is needed to make a child’s school experience more successful and enjoyable. You can reach me by phone 452-1712 Ext. 250 or e-mail sash@piusx.com.

Here are some highlights of the Guidance Program: …

Classroom Visits Monthly visits are made in classrooms to help reinforce healthy life skills. Topics may include friendship, appropriate expression of feelings, dealing with transitions, family concerns, safety issues, and study/work skills.

PeaceBuilders Program®Site Representative - As a school we participate in this nationally known program to help schools provide optimal learning environments. Activities are planned by our Peace Team made up of faculty, parents and students. We strive to foster attitudes and behaviors to help build peace in ourselves, our school, and our community.

PeaceBuilders is a registered trademark of PeacePartners,Inc. www.peacebuilders.com

Counseling – I meet individually or in small groups with students who are experiencing normal developmental problems or school-related concerns, such as social issues, family matters (i.e. divorce, death, etc.) or any situation that may cause emotional stress. Occasionally we all need a little extra TLC.

Academic Team – At St. Pius we take a team approach to problem-solving on behalf of children experiencing academic problems. I meet weekly with our principal, assistant principal, and resource teacher to discuss reported concerns. We discuss strategies to support teachers and parents in helping the child. If needed, I coordinate special conferences and testing.

Again, feel free to contact me if I can be of help!   Mrs. Ash
