. . . .  more 6th Grade News, & other information, etc……. for 2006

6th Grade Social Studies – The 6th grade is actively involved in the study of Western Europe……………this includes a study of the Holocaust and its effect on the world.  In February the 6th grade will attend the play:  “And Then They Came For Me:  Remembering the World of Anne Frank”.  This should provide an exciting moment for the 6th graders.

In addition to the Holocaust study, the 6th graders will be working on their “Cathedral Project” which will involve the completion of a tri-fold board and a written packet.  They should be well prepared when we visit the Basilica in the spring.

7th Grade Ancient History – The 7th graders began with the civilization of ancient Mesopotamia and proceeded to the land of the pharaohs………..they now are studying the Phoenicians and hopefully before the year end will go to ancient Rome and meet Constantine.

8th Grade U.S. History - Native Americans and The 13 Colonies were studied by the 8th graders.  They now are becoming involved with the Revolutionary War. Their study will involve research, films, and cross curriculum activities beginning with the study of the revolutionary war novel, Johnny Tremain.

All classes connect their learning with the “5 themes of geography” as their main application skill. The “who, what, when, where and why” are the main guideposts for the study of history.  Discussion, visual representations, classroom activities, technology use, written work and research are all a part of a well rounded history curriculum………
